Tension Springs

The older arrangement, running alongside the tracks. Less common now, still replaced regularly.

What it does

Tension springs run along the track on either side of the door and stretch as it closes. It is the older setup, largely replaced by torsion on new installations, but plenty of doors around the country still run it and we still carry the full range.

Signs it needs replacing

  • The door sits crooked when closed
  • One side lifts before the other
  • Visible stretch in the coil, or a clean break

Fitting notes

The tip colour tells you the weight rating. Springs are matched to the weight of the door, so the door is weighed before we quote. Replaced in pairs so both sides carry the same load.
