What changes on a double door

Heavier spring set

A double door weighs considerably more than a single, so the springs are sized for it. The door is weighed and measured before we quote rather than matched off a chart.

Torsion pole across the opening

A wider opening needs a longer torsion pole, to suit the width of the door and opening.

Double steel door questions
What patterns do double steel doors come in?

Six. Horizontal, horizontal broad, brick, 20 panel, 40 panel and Tuscan. The table above shows which patterns are currently run in which colour.

Why is it 20 and 40 panel rather than 10 and 20?

The panel count follows the width of the door. A double is roughly twice the span of a single, so the same pattern comes out at twice the count. A 40 panel double has the same panel size as a 20 panel single, not smaller panels.

What colours are available in a double steel door?

Brown, charcoal and white as standard, plus three wood-look finishes in mahogany, imbuia and teak. Custom colours can be quoted.

Are the wood-look finishes available in every pattern?

Almost. Mahogany runs across all six on the double. Imbuia is not currently run in horizontal broad. Teak is a new arrival and is available in horizontal while the rest of the range comes on line. The gaps are not the same as on the single range.

Does a double door need a different motor?

It needs the motor specified for its weight rather than a different model. We fit the Eazy Lift Mark II, and the door is weighed so the spring set and the motor are matched to it.

How is the colour applied?

In three steps. The panel is alu-zinc treated first, then a base coat goes on, then your chosen colour last. The alu-zinc is what gives the panel a longer service life than galvanised steel.

Can I have two singles instead of one double?

Yes, and plenty of homes do. Two singles give you two independent doors and two motors. If you go that way, check the single range table, because the colour and pattern gaps differ slightly between the two.

What if my opening is wider than a standard double?

Panels are built to fit your opening rather than a standard door being trimmed to suit it, so a wide or non standard double is a quote rather than a problem. Send us the opening width and height and we will come back with a price.
